ONCF trains link Tangier, Rabat, Casablanca, Marrakech, and Fes comfortably and cheaply; CTM and Supratours coaches reach the towns the railway doesn't; and grands taxis fill the gaps. For simple city-to-city hops, self-guided transport is often the smart, cheap choice — and we'll happily tell you so.
Where a private driver-guide earns its keep is the multi-stop day and the off-rail destination: the Sahara at Merzouga or Zagora, Aït Benhaddou and the Ouarzazate kasbahs, the Atlas Mountains and villages like Imlil, the Ourika Valley, or the blue lanes of Chefchaouen — places no train reaches and where buses run once or twice a day on their own timetable. Add luggage, kids, elderly parents, or simply not wanting to negotiate a grand-taxi fare in Darija every leg, and door-to-door comfort starts to pay for itself.

Use ONCF trains and CTM buses for the long, simple city-to-city legs — they're genuinely great value. Use a private driver-guide for the multi-stop days and the off-rail destinations (Sahara, Aït Benhaddou, the Atlas, Chefchaouen) where public transport is slow, indirect, or doesn't go at all.
