Tangier Private Transfers: Airport, Port and Station

A Tangier private transfer is a pre-booked car and licensed driver who meet you where you arrive in Tangier and take you to your hotel or on to another town. That might be Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport (TNG), about 11 to 12 km southwest of the center, the city port where ferries from Tarifa dock, Tanger Med further along the coast, or Tanger-Ville station. It suits ferry passengers from Spain, flyers heading to Chefchaouen and anyone with luggage bound for the medina.

    Highlights

    • Three ways in, one driver. Airport, ferry port or railway station, the transfer starts where your journey into Morocco does.
    • No train from the airport. The terminal has no station, so reaching the Al Boraq high-speed line means a drive to Tanger-Ville first.
    • Straight to the blue town. Chefchaouen is about 105 to 115 km from Tangier, roughly 2 hours by road, so many travelers ride there directly.
    • Tétouan on the way. The medina of Tétouan, inscribed by UNESCO in 1997, lies close to the Chefchaouen road and breaks the drive neatly.
    • Medina-aware drop-offs. Hotels in the medina and the Kasbah quarter often sit on lanes no car can use, so the drop-off is planned at the nearest square or gate.

    The route

The pickup point depends on how you arrive; the pickup details below explain the meeting at each one. Distances beyond the city come from route planners, so treat them as round numbers.

Arriving by sea from Tarifa, you walk out of the terminal into the lower town, with the medina rising on the hill above. Sailings from Algeciras mostly land at Tanger Med, which turns a short hop into a longer drive, so check the Moroccan port named on your ticket and share it when you book.

    Good to know

    • Check the stamp. Whether you fly or sail in, make sure your passport is stamped into Morocco; UK advice notes problems for travelers leaving without an entry stamp.
    • Read times as local times. Mainland Spain runs ahead of Moroccan time, so give us your arrival in Moroccan time and check the difference before you sail.
    • Weather in the Strait. Strong winds sometimes delay or cancel ferries, so avoid a tight connection to a train or flight on the Moroccan side.
    • Skip the ride-hailing apps. UK travel advice warns that cars booked through them may be unlicensed and uninsured.
    • Dirhams come later. The dirham is a closed currency that is hard to buy abroad, so plan to get cash after you arrive.

    Who it's for

The transfer suits travelers crossing from Spain who want someone waiting at the port exit, and flyers landing at Ibn Battouta who are heading straight to Chefchaouen or Tétouan. It suits Al Boraq passengers arriving at Tanger-Ville with luggage, and families who would rather not bargain for taxis on arrival.

It also works at the end of a trip in the north, from Chefchaouen or Fes back to the airport, the station or the ferry, timed to your flight, train or sailing.

    Frequently asked questions

Which Tangier port does my ferry use?

Ferries from Tarifa arrive at the city port, in the lower town below the medina. Most sailings from Algeciras use Tanger Med, roughly 40 to 50 km from the city. Check the Moroccan port on your ticket and give us that name, so the pickup waits in the right place.

How far is Tangier airport from the city?

Tangier Ibn Battouta Airport lies about 11 to 12 km southwest of the center, a short drive in normal traffic. Hotels in the modern center are quickest to reach; for the medina or the Kasbah quarter, the car stops at the nearest square or gate and you walk the final lanes.

Can I go straight from Tangier to Chefchaouen?

Yes. Chefchaouen is about 105 to 115 km away, roughly 2 hours by road, so a direct transfer from the airport, port or station works well. Aim to arrive in daylight, because the car stops at the edge of the old town and you walk to your guesthouse.

Can the transfer stop in Tétouan?

Yes. Tétouan lies close to the Chefchaouen road, and its medina has been a UNESCO World Heritage site since 1997. A short walk there with a licensed local guide breaks the drive, so mention it when you book and allow the extra time.

Is there a train from Tangier airport?

No. Trains do not leave from the terminal. For the Al Boraq high-speed line toward Rabat and Casablanca, take a transfer to Tanger-Ville station first, and check ONCF timetables for your date, since they change by season and during works.
