At the very bottom of the gorge, where the tiers of Ouzoud Falls empty into a broad plunge pool, local boatmen operate simple flat raft-boats that push out from the shore and ferry visitors toward the base of the cascades. It is a short ride, only a few minutes, but it takes you close enough to feel the spray and look almost straight up the full height of the falling water.
The boats are basic and open, so expect to get damp from the mist, especially when the river is running high in spring. Fares are arranged directly with the boatmen at the waterside and are modest; it is worth agreeing the price before you step aboard. The ride is as much about the vantage point for photographs as the trip itself, giving you the dramatic upward view of the cascades that you cannot get from the rim.
Reaching the base pool means walking the steep path down through the olive groves from the town, then climbing back up afterward. With a private driver you can take that descent unhurried, keep valuables dry in the vehicle, and leave whenever you are ready without watching a group departure time.
