Hiring a private driver is the simplest way to see Morocco: one vehicle, one clear per-vehicle price, and a route built around your group instead of a coach timetable. Here is what it really costs in 2026, what is included, and how booking works.
What "private driver" actually means in Morocco
A private driver in Morocco is a licensed professional with a tourist-transport vehicle — a comfortable car for smaller groups, a minivan for larger ones — who drives your group and only your group. The driver agrees the route with you, handles the fuel, tolls and parking, waits while you explore, and adjusts the day on the fly when you want an extra half hour at a viewpoint or decide to skip a stop entirely.
One distinction matters from the start: a driver is not a licensed guide. Moroccan regulations reserve guiding inside medinas and monuments for licensed local guides. Your driver gets you everywhere and will point things out along the way, but for a proper guided walk through a medina you pair the driver day with a walking tour led by a licensed guide. The pricing model: per vehicle, not per person
Most of the confusion around Morocco tour prices disappears once you grasp this: our private driver tours are priced per vehicle, capped at 9 guests. Two people pay the same as eight, so the larger your group, the better the value. Six to nine guests simply ride in a minivan instead of a car; more than nine means a second vehicle and a combined quote.
Real 2026 figures so you can budget properly:
- Day tours in Marrakech and Fes start at 2,500 MAD per vehicle.
- Casablanca, Rabat, Tangier and Agadir day tours start at 2,400 MAD per vehicle, and an Ourika valley day starts from 2,400 MAD per vehicle.
- Days in the Atlas Mountains start at 2,600 MAD per vehicle, and a Meknes day tour starts from 2,600 MAD per vehicle.
- Longer driving days cost more: Chefchaouen starts from 2,800 MAD per vehicle, Ouzoud starts from 2,800 MAD per vehicle, Essaouira starts from 2,900 MAD per vehicle, and Ouarzazate — the far side of the Atlas — starts from 3,200 MAD per vehicle. Those are starting figures for the standard vehicle and itinerary; you always see the exact total before you commit. And we never quote per-person prices for driver tours — the vehicle is the unit. What's included — and what isn't
Included in a driver day: the vehicle, your driver, fuel, motorway tolls, parking, and pick-up and drop-off at your hotel or riad. Waiting time at stops is part of the day — there is no meter running while you linger over lunch.
Not included: monument entrance fees, meals and personal extras. That's deliberate — you choose what to enter and where to eat. Budget the third-party costs realistically. Jardin Majorelle in Marrakech sells online timed tickets, so book a slot before your day (and note the YSL museum next door closes on Wednesdays). Non-Muslim visitors can only enter Casablanca's Hassan II Mosque on the official guided tour slots, which are ticketed separately. A good medina lunch runs 80–200 MAD a head; a hammam costs anywhere from about 150 MAD for a local bathhouse to 600 MAD and up for a spa version. Tipping your driver is appreciated but always discretionary.
Driver, guide — or both?
For sightseeing on foot, add a licensed local guide. Our walking tours start at 900 MAD for one to four guests, with tiers at 1,200 MAD for five to eight and 1,500 MAD for nine to thirteen. Three sample days that work
Marrakech in a day. Jardin Majorelle on a morning timed ticket, Bahia Palace, lunch, then the souks — saving Jemaa el-Fnaa for dusk, when the square genuinely comes alive with food stalls, musicians and storytellers. One routing note: the souks go quiet around Friday midday prayers, so on Fridays we front-load gardens and palaces.
Into the mountains. An Atlas day means Berber villages, valley walks and mint tea with a view. Two cautions we build into every itinerary: in the Ourika valley, stay off the riverbed after heavy rain — flash floods there are a real, documented risk — and from November to March the Tizi n'Tichka pass can close temporarily after snowfall, so high-route days get a weather check first.
The big one. Multi-day Sahara tours via Merzouga add dunes, a camel trek and a night in a desert camp. In July and August we schedule dune time for early morning and evening only — midday heat at Merzouga is extreme.
