    About This Tour

Leave Marrakech around 07:00 and climb the High Atlas over the Tizi n'Tichka pass at 2,260 m, with photo stops at the switchback viewpoints and Berber villages along the way. Drop into the pre-Sahara to reach Aït Benhaddou — the UNESCO-listed earthen ksar filmed in Gladiator and Game of Thrones. You cross the riverbed and climb up through the fortified village, ideally before the late-morning coaches arrive, then have lunch on a terrace facing the ksar across the Ounila. A short drive on brings you to Ouarzazate, Morocco's film capital, for the Kasbah Taourirt and, if you like, the Atlas Film Studios. Late afternoon you recross the Tichka and are back at your hotel between roughly 18:30 and 20:00. This is a genuinely private trip: your group, your vehicle, your pace — no shared coach, no fixed roster. Be honest with yourself about the distance: it is about 12–13 hours door to door, most of it on winding mountain roads, and we would rather set that expectation than oversell it. We start early so you reach the ksar before the crowds and the heat, and your driver narrates the mountains, villages and film history along the road. Want the Glaoui kasbah at Telouet and the Ounila back road as well? That can be arranged in advance, but it adds 1.5–2 hours to an already long day and is better suited to a slower two-day version. Prefer more time in the south? This route extends cleanly into a 2-day Ouarzazate/Skoura or a 3-day Merzouga Sahara circuit.

    Accessibility

A long day on winding mountain roads over a 2,260 m pass — not ideal if you are prone to motion sickness. Reaching the ksar at Aït Benhaddou means crossing the riverbed (stepping stones, or shallow water after rain) and a steep, uneven climb up earthen lanes and steps; the upper village is not step-free. Summer here is hot (35–45°C in the pre-Sahara), so we front-load the walk to the cooler morning. Tell us in advance about mobility needs and we will adapt the pace and stops.
