Majorelle sells out its timed slots, Bahia has a queue snaking down the street by 10am, the souks half-close on Friday around midday prayers, and Jemaa el-Fnaa is a hot, empty car park at 2pm and the best show in North Africa at 7pm.
Marrakech also punishes wasted transitions. The medina is closed to cars, taxis argue about meters, and the walk from Bahia to Majorelle is 40 minutes in full sun. 9:00 — Bahia Palace, before the coaches

From Bahia you are two minutes from the Mellah, the old Jewish quarter, with its spice market and restored Slat al-Azama synagogue. If ruins appeal more, swap in the Saadian Tombs or the vast El Badi Palace nearby — in spring its walls are topped with nesting storks.
11:00 — Jardin Majorelle and the YSL Museum
Jardin Majorelle now works on online timed tickets — book them before you travel, because walk-ups regularly find the day sold out. The garden is small but genuinely lovely: cobalt-blue studio walls, bamboo groves, and a cactus collection Yves Saint Laurent spent decades protecting. Allow about an hour.
The Yves Saint Laurent Museum next door is worth adding if fashion interests you, with one caveat that catches people out: the YSL museum is closed on Wednesdays. On a private tour your driver drops you at the gate and waits, which matters here — Majorelle sits outside the medina in Gueliz, and it is the one stop on this route you cannot comfortably walk to.
13:00 — Lunch like you mean it

14:30 — Into the souks, ideally with a guide
The souks north of Jemaa el-Fnaa are the afternoon's main event: dyers' wool drying overhead, blacksmiths hammering lanterns, carpet dealers unrolling forty rugs to sell one. Mid-afternoon is a good window — the morning deliveries are done and the evening crush has not started. One timing note: the souks go noticeably quiet around Friday midday, when many stallholders close for prayers; it is atmospheric for photos but poor for shopping.

Jemaa el-Fnaa comes alive at dusk: food stalls wheel in around 5pm, smoke rises off a hundred grills, and the storytelling circles, gnawa musicians and orange-juice sellers turn the square into the spectacle UNESCO recognised as a masterpiece of oral heritage. Take a rooftop café table first for the aerial view, then walk the floor.
