Flexibility: the fixed itinerary problem

Where group tours genuinely win
An honest comparison has to give the other side its due. Group tours win for solo travellers on a budget, where the per-seat price is unbeatable and the coach doubles as a social scene — plenty of lasting friendships start on the back seats of Morocco overland trips. They win for travellers who actively want zero decisions: everything pre-booked, every meal chosen, every minute scheduled. The desert test
Nothing separates the two models like a Sahara trip. The group version: a long coach day over the Atlas with fixed stops, arrival at a large shared camp, and dune activities scheduled by the operator's timetable — which in July and August can mean programmed activities uncomfortably close to midday, when Merzouga's heat is extreme and the dunes are at their emptiest and harshest.
