Days 9–10: Wind down. Fly home from Fes, or loop back for a final riad night in Marrakech. Couples with an extra day or two often prefer to finish on the coast instead: Essaouira trades medina intensity for sea air, grilled fish and ramparts at sunset.
When to Go — and When the Desert Pushes Back
The sweet spots are March–May and late September–November: warm days, cool desert nights, and comfortable city walking. Two cautions shape the calendar. In July and August, Merzouga reaches extreme heat around midday — camps still run, but the day compresses into sunrise and sunset, which is a compromise on a honeymoon. Between November and March, the Tizi n'Tichka pass can close for hours or days after snowfall, so build a buffer day around the Atlas crossing if you travel in winter. Ramadan shifts about 11 days earlier each year — in 2026 it falls across late February and most of March. It is still a fine time to visit, but daytime café life is quieter and dinner starts later.
